چکیده
The Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring (GEM) program has over the past two decades established itself firmly as an internationally leading environmental barometer measuring climate change impacts and ecosystem changes in the Arctic. The program was established in 1995 at Zackenberg Research Station in a High-Arctic ecosystem. Over the past decade, GEM expanded to include a Low-Arctic site, Nuuk/Kobbefjord area, and more recently initiated the inclusion of Disko/Qeqertarsuaq at the transition between the Low-Arctic and High-Arctic. GEM is the longest running operational ecosystem/climate-oriented monitoring program in the Arctic contributing to a deeper understanding of ecosystem change and function. The mission of GEM is threefold and embraces the following goals:

Postscript: The future of the Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring programme
As documented with examples in this special issue of Ambio, the Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring (GEM) Programme in its first 20 years has focused on both detailed and very comprehensive studies of specific ecosystems in order to monitor and understand ecosystem patterns and processes. An international review of GEM conducted in 2015 praised the programme for its comprehensiveness, but also saw a...

The impacts of land utilization change on the ecosystem service values in Daqing during 1995 to 2015 were analyzed based on unit area ecosystem service value of Chinese territorial ecosystem from Mr. Xie Gaodi and ecosystem service value calculation formula from Costanza. Results showed that the ecosystem service value of Daqing decreased from US $4343.1559m in 1995 to US $3824.327m in 2015, wi...
متن کاملSea ice and primary production proxies in surface sediments from a High Arctic Greenland fjord: Spatial distribution and implications for palaeoenvironmental studies
In order to establish a baseline for proxy-based reconstructions for the Young Sound-Tyrolerfjord system (Northeast Greenland), we analysed the spatial distribution of primary production and sea ice proxies in surface sediments from the fjord, against monitoring data from the Greenland Ecosystem Monitoring Programme. Clear spatial gradients in organic carbon and biogenic silica contents reflect...
متن کاملLarval outbreaks in West Greenland: Instant and subsequent effects on tundra ecosystem productivity and CO2 exchange
Insect outbreaks can have important consequences for tundra ecosystems. In this study, we synthesise available information on outbreaks of larvae of the noctuid moth Eurois occulta in Greenland. Based on an extensive dataset from a monitoring programme in Kobbefjord, West Greenland, we demonstrate effects of a larval outbreak in 2011 on vegetation productivity and CO2 exchange. We estimate a de...
متن کاملMonitoring and assessment of land use/land cover changes in Kashkan basin using futures studies approach in managing ecosystem services
Land use/cover change is one of the main factors in environmental changes. The changes directly affect the value of ecosystem services. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effect of land use/land cover change in the Kashkan area on its ecosystem services. This research was carried out in three stages, including the analysis of land cover changes, prediction of changes, and carbon st...
